1997-2008
In March 2008, Allison Rogers, a 5th grade student at Harpswell Islands School passed away after a heartbreaking battle with cancer. She was just 10 years old. Allison was known by her teachers and fellow students for her infectious smile and unwavering kindness to others. In honor of her memory, and under the direction of HIS Art Teacher Betsey Bailey, Allison's classmates began making "Happy Memories" heart pins out of clay to help to raise funds at the family benefit dinner. The pins sold out!! Energized by the success of these pins and the desire to help others in need the Harpswell Islands School Community established the Helping Hearts Fund in June 2008.
Inspired by Allison's kindness and spirit of helping others, 100% of the proceeds of our products are dedicated to assisting families in need from the surrounding communities and towards promoting service learning opportunities and volunteerism among and for our youth.
