Mission Statement
Background and Mission: The mission of the HHF is twofold: to help families in need or struck by tragedy through financial assistance and helping hands; and to support service learning projects and volunteerism for and among our youth. Through its giving and programs the HHF hopes to inspire the generosity of others and empower those who share its vision with opportunities to give back to their own community.
Funding Interests and Priorities: Through its giving, the Fund seeks to provide assistance to families with demonstrated need, and encourage volunteerism among our youth. Priority is given to family households and/or legal guardians with children under the age of 18 legally residing in the household.
Geographic Focus: Giving is limited to the communities of Cundy’s Harbor, Orr’s & Bailey Islands, Great Island, and Greater Harpswell, Maine.
Types of Funding: Financial Assistance is provided for the purchase of gas, food, clothing & necessities. The HHF is most interested in providing assistance that will offer relief to families that will help ease their financial burden during a difficult time. The HHF will also occasionally offer cash awards to community youth to encourage volunteerism and good citizenship.
Overview of Process: The Fund accepts unsolicited inquiries and requests for assistance for specific families from individuals and the community. From time to time, the committee may develop strategic requests for assistance or targeted initiatives in support of youth volunteerism.
Invitation Process: A committee member of the Fund will contact individuals open to receiving assistance. Those invited are required to adhere to the Maine Philanthropy Center Common Proposal Application Format and include all required attachments. Recipients are expected to inspire the generosity of others.
